It was a very busy 2nd half of 2011 for ARVS
ARVS finally took a vacation in 2011. Upon returning to work in September, we relocated to the Los Angeles area to take on a bus conversion project. As you might have noticed from our Flickr pictures, this project is currently ongoing and is now at the axle shop as of today. From there it will be going to a welder and then we can finally start putting this coach together.
In the meantime, ARVS attended Prevost Service Training School in Mira Loma, CA from Nov. 7-10, 2011 and is now certified in both Prevost HVAC and Electrical Systems (Multiplex). We also have been fortunate to acquire a new van for our mobile service. We are currently working on a roofing / front end project.
We would like to thank all of our customers for their continued support and look forward to helping new customers, as well, in this new year. Please do not hesitate in calling us with any questions – as you may know, many times we are able to resolve the issue at hand over the phone, at no charge.

Dometic Refrigerator Recall – Update…
Just wanted to let you folks know again about the Dometic Refrigerator Recall. I’ve had 4 calls this week regarding Dometic refrigerators. I certainly do not want anyone to have an unfortunate outcome by turning on their LP gas w/ a recalled Dometic refrigerator.
“These refrigerators were installed in certain recreational vehicles as original equipment and sold as aftermarket equipment. A fatigue crack may develop in the boiler tube which may release a sufficient amount of pressurized coolant solution into an area where an ignition source (gas flame) is present. This release of coolant under certain conditions could ignite and result in a fire. There are potentially 926,877 units affected.“
“Dometic recently expanded its recall on a population of two-door refrigerators. The original recall included some two-door refrigerators manufactured between April 1997 and May 2003. The new recall focuses on models manufactured between June 2003 and September 2006.” Please check this link to find out if your model is in the recall. Follow their links to find an authorized Dometic repair facility and call to make an appointment.
“At no charge to you, Dometic’s SBH Kit needs to be installed on your refrigerator.” The authorized RV service technician can perform the installation for you in under an hour.

Prevost Webinar on Winter Prep – Heating System Maintenance
So I thought I’d post some notes from the recent Prevost Webinar I attended on Nov. 4th. This Webinar covered Winter Preparation – Heating System Maintenance.
The following items were covered in this webinar:
* Battery systems
* Booster cables to jump start
* Engine cranking
* Preheaters
* Coolant
* Pneumatic system issues
The first comment was SAFETY - more critical in winter conditions.
Battery systems – Group 31 (4) (most common) or 8 D
- Ignition & battery switch are one in the same
- Volvo 9700 – separate battery switch to left of ignition switch (more…)
Prevost Launches Connection Webinar Program for Prevost Owners

Xantrex Echo Charge
I installed a Xantrex Echo Charge yesterday on a ’28 Jamboree. What a breeze to install. This little unit is an auxiliary battery charger that will charge an auxiliary or starting (chassis) battery by taking shore service (110v) or generator power and trickle charging the starting battery with limited voltage drop. This charger detects when the house battery is being charged and in turn, directs a portion of the charge to the starting/chassis battery. If you’re looking to keep your chassis battery charged, give this little guy a try.
Trying to get indexed in “Technorati”
Well, I can certainly say – trying to get indexed in “Technorati” is by far the most difficult thing I’ve had to do all year.
F2HQBSNE7D7V
I know, that last little blurb with letters and numbers made no sense. It seems that in order to get indexed, one needs to post some crazy code… We’ll see what happens. And yes, I will be including a post regarding air conditioning here soon. It’s been a long week and today I’m heading down to see some Tall Ships.
Until next time , have a safe Labor Day weekend and Happy Camping!
Don’t let your RV lot rot
Use your RV, turn your RV on, keep water in the system, run your pumps, & run your generator under load at least once a month. If it rains, pull the awning out for a nice rinse. Cover your tires if you store your RV. Move the vehicle around a little bit – even if it’s for 20 min. All these things will help to keep your RV in good working order and will alert you to any potential malfunctions prior to heading out on your next trip.

Fire, Life & Safety (FLS) – just what is it?
I wanted to let you know about a great service that I offer. It is a “Fire, Life & Safety” (FLS) check I perform on your RV. I will come out to your location and check the following items: Shore Power Service / High Voltage; Generators; Low Voltage / 12v Systems; Propane; Safety Signaling Devices; Air Conditioning & Ventilation / Chassis & House; Heating; Appliances; Chassis, Engine & Suspension Systems; Jacks & Leveling Systems; Plumbing & Sewer Systems; Entertainment Systems; Awnings; Entry Steps; Ladder; Roof; Interior Leaks; & Exterior Leaks. I test to make sure all these items are working properly and safely and give you a written report – including any items that need repair. This is a great way to make sure your RV continues to give you safe and happy trips. Having a hard copy of my report is also a wonderful tool to be able to offer to a prospective buyer. Please call 619-288-3260 to set up an appointment today.
The Importance of Being Level
Hello folks. This week’s topic is “The Importance of Being Level.” The reason I want to discuss this topic, is that this week I have received several phone calls regarding refrigerator issues – all with the outcome of their camper/trailer/RV/motor coach not being level. I want to help save you money and frustration. Ensure your motor home is level for proper cooling of your gas operated refrigerator. Even though the pilot is lit for gas operation, this does not mean that the refrigerator will operate correctly. So please take a minute and double check your bubbles and do a visual check of your motor home/camper and help eliminate warm beer and spoiled milk.
Hello World!
Thanks for stopping by at Affordable RV Solutions’ Blog. In our upcoming posts we will be covering all kinds of topics such as “What to look for when purchasing an RV”, “Tips for keeping your RV looking like new”, etc. Each week we will be posting a new topic and we welcome your questions and comments.
Until next time—
Be Safe and Enjoy the Road!
